Q: What is Meow Mixx?
Short A: one-click downloadable music playlist.
Long A: Meow Mixx was born my freshman year of college. Unlike the stereotypical freshman roommate from hell saga, I would liken my tale to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. Our shared a love for music, working out and or sorority. These same 3 elements are the foundation of Meow Mixx. She once asked me to make her playlist for working out. I uploaded it to Mediafire and Meow Mixx was born.
Who would have guess… But we were not the only freshman girls that liked music, working out, and our sorority. So upon request, I started sharing the links with my other friends. Then, they started sharing the link with their friend. I started noticing that the download count was a lot higher than my actual friend count. I was flattered but then didn’t think much about it and just continued making playlists.
During my junior year abroad, I noticed that the download count really started to sky rocket. Turns out, friends made friends abroad (who… get this… like music!) and shared my links. Only then did it finally dawn on me that I should do something with the links.
Q: What is TheKatsup?
Short A: A blog… With Meow Mixx.
Long A: Not a blog. Well. I’m not sure. I think I’m far too awkward (and bad at spelling/grammar) to ever be considered a “blogger”.
For 1, TheKatsup is a functional medium that serves as a distribution platform for my Meow Mixxes. No need to get the link from a friend-of-a-friend!
For 2, it’s just another excuse for me to make a play-on words in reference to my sorority (and think I’m a lot wittier than I truly am).
For 3, well if you’ve ever seen me eat fries, hash browns, or breakfast potatoes with ketchup… Then you knew all along what TheKatsup was all about.
For 4, I talk a lot… However, technology isn’t really something I get to talk about because its not everyones cup of tea. But I still think it’s worth talking about! So this my way of discussing technology in a way that is inclusive of everyone and not just to those who subscribe to the PopTech RSS feed.
So thank you for downloading and staying tuned to America’s favorite condiment!
